When I packed Malachy's lunch this morning, I remembered to take a picture. He loves carrots, his kleen-Kanteen has water in it. There is a yogurt and there is a tortilla wrapped with turkey. He loves his little napkins and all of the little containers that keep everything organized. Yesterday, he wanted a sliced up apple, yogurt and rice (in the morning I just turned on my rice cooker and before he was even ready to leave the rice was ready) with some cheese for lunch. I also put in a frozen little ice pack to keep everything cold. He eats everything, nothing is left in his lunchbox except for the containers, utensils, napkin and thermos. No waste!!
My big ones will not use a lunchbox, please, so they get a brown paper bag. I give them everything in aluminum foil and ask that they bring the bag and foil back for recycling....some days I get it and some days not.
I enjoy getting their lunches together because I get compliments from them. I love when they come home and say that their friends want some next time. Their Mom's must think that I pack candy and cokes!! I guess it is all about what they are used to. Of course, we have candy in the house, I love candy, but when it is a long day of learning, they need something to keep them alert.
Many days I make shakes or smoothies the night before and then freeze some for lunch or snack time. They say that by the time they drink them, they are perfect! My shakes, as some of you know, include spinach or carrots and nuts. I also add strawberries, bananas, apples (whatever I have), rice milk and yogurt. They taste so good, you can't even taste the veggies and nuts and the consistency is perfect.
I hope I have given some helpful ideas for you or your kids lunchbox!
Until next time: Knit-Laugh-Enjoy!
