Who Knew

For Christmas I received the Ipod Nano. I did not know how much I would love such a cute little thing. It is my new favorite thing to do while knitting. It makes knitting even more enjoyable and zen like, if that's possible! I just sit in my new favorite spot, which happens to be my bed, pop in my headphones and knit. Who knew.

Now there is one VERY distinct advantage to listening to my Ipod while knitting, I CAN'T hear what's going on around me. No really, this is big, because the one thing that stresses me out the most, is when I am happily knitting and calm and then I hear my kids. Not just hear them wistfully playing together, yeah right, but the screams and cries and "you're an idiot", blah, blah, blah. All of that goes away with a spin of the Ipod wheel. Wow. Who knew.

AND....nobody complains about the music that I listen to. I mean really!! I can listen to, however loudly, whatever I WANT to listen to. Man, those guys over at Ipod are genius!! My sons all have Ipods. Different ones, the shuffle, the older Nano and the first Ipod, but I don't see much listening going on. I should have grabbed theirs long ago and I could have been in Ipod heaven all this time. Who knew.

I could go on and on......

I am on my last ball of the Antlers scarf. I love it. It looks great and I am glad it is almost over. I am getting bored with it. I know I had better finish quickly when I start pulling out knitting books and looking for my next project before I have even finished my last project. I am thinking of something in Stephanie Japel's book, Fitted Knits. There are alot of very cute sweaters in there. Although, I still need to make that knitted babes fairy for my friend Onai, but I think that will be fun and quick.

My boss was out of town yesterday and so I brought Malachy with me. How cute is he sitting there at my desk. He thought he was all that and a bag of chips (my sister Teresa's expression!!- Hi, Teresa). One of the offices has a sofa and a TV, so he watched The Grinch, while drinking a slushy AND a bag of chips. Hey, bribing works. After work, I also promised Rubio's for lunch. Sheesh, it cost me money to bring him to work with me. Was it worth it? I think not. With all of the complaining that went on, you would think that I was bringing him to the Dentist. These kids today, they're all the same. If it isn't one thing, it's another, but it's ALWAYS something. I usually don't complain this much, but they are off from school for 17 days. Haven't I mentioned that before. Oh, stop, I'm only joking. It's not that bad!!

Malachy got the Wii for Christmas and there's been alot of bowling going on. Mark broke a Santa statue with the Wii controller, because he did not put the wrist strap on, like they advise you to, and when he swung, he threw the controller. By accident, of course. Oh well, one less thing to put away this year.

My tree is down and the only sign that Christmas was this past week, are the last 1/2 of my Christmas cards that need to be mailed. I mailed the first half only yesterday. Surprise, surprise, I was LATE mailing them out. Lisa and GeorgeAnne, you can stop laughing now.

I need to go take a shower. The cable guy is coming between 8 and 10am. Yeah, right! He will probably call at 3 and say that he will be over at 5pm. You know how that goes. Waiting and knitting and knitting and waiting.....

Until next time: Knit-Laugh-Enjoy.

Cables

Wow, cables. Who knew they would be this much fun and easy AND the results, will you take a look at that scarf. My first attempt at cables and I love, love the results. The antler scarf pattern from Debbie Stoller's, Son of Stitch and Bitch, is so easy. It is an 8 row repeat, with all even rows the same stitch pattern. I think scarves are very boring to make, but not with cables and it's going, surprisingly, quite fast.

I am making the antler scarf for my boss. The hat just did not work out. I hated every pattern that I tried and finally frogged them and when I saw this scarf, I knew this was the pattern. I swatched and swatched my little heart out on that second hat and halfway through it, I was hating the results, so rip-it, rip-it, rip-it I did!!

I made the aspen hat from Twinkles Big City Knits. Fast, like less than an hour fast, from start to finish. How crazy is that and it is adorable. I made it for my friends daughter. I used Twinkle yarn and there is enough to make 2 hats, but I have to tell you, thank God it only takes an hour to make, because I hate, HATE working on such large needles and with such bulky yarn. Wow, my hands were hurting after that knitting session.

For me a day without knitting is like a day without yoga and a day without yoga means my day does not start out right. My back hurts and my mind needs calming. I just don't feel RIGHT all day. The same with knitting, no my back does not hurt, but the mind calming, yes, and I don't feel RIGHT all day, yes. It's like something is missing. If I am out and need to wait somewhere, with 3 kids you do alot of running around and alot of waiting, if I do not have some knitting with me then I am bummed. I don't even care what I knit, give me your project and I would be happy to knit it. Like I have said before, it's the process, okay, a beautiful end result is nice, too, but I ENJOY knitting. With that said, I think I will go knit now, you know, with a cup of coffee, next to the Christmas tree, because it doesn't have a long shelf life (the Christmas tree!!) and will be coming down this weekend!

Until next time: Knit-Laugh-Enjoy and a Very Happy New Year to ALL!!
